Description
first edition, unused, complete with the original, postmarked, printed envelope from the London Underground publicity department, a geographical map with the underground lines accurately overlaid for the central area, from Kentish Town to Oval, and from Wood Lane to Aldgate, lithographed map printed in colours, 1010 x 1270mm., occasional very minor wear and very faint browning on a few of the old folds, a very small hole in the lower right border, otherwise in very good condition, the printed buff envelope franked London, 1932, edges frayed and splitting, 4to, G.W. Bacon & Co., [1932]. Although Harry Beck's first truly schematic, diagrammatic, plan appeared the following year, 1933, there was still a lot of appreciation of more relatable surface maps, such as Bacon's, which more readily placed locations in mind. This map is in particularly fine condition, preserved as it has been in the original envelope in which it was dispatched on request to a member of the public in Leicester, in 1932.
