Title: Synchronological Chart of Universal History
Place Published: New York
Publisher:Colby & Co.

Description:
Color lithograph pictorial time-line, lithographed by Strobridge & Co., Cincinnati. The approximately 22 foot chart divided and backed with linen making 11 leaves including single-sided 3/4 leaf at front and folded double leaf at rear; 6 page 'Key' at front. (Folio) 69x32.5 cm. (27¾x12¾) rebound in modern brown cloth with portion of original gilt stamped cloth laid down.
First published in 1871. Fascinating and incredibly large pictorial time line of the history of the world, from Adam and Eve (or the Stone-age, whichever came first) to Noah's Ark resting on Ararat, the Tower of Babel, the crucifixion of Christ, the Roman Empire, the discovery of America, terminating at 1880. The chart begins with a view of the world from the Eastern Hemisphere (since the discovery of the Western Hemisphere didn't come until much later). Also depicts ancient tools, Egyptian Hieroglyphic letters, the Greek Alphabet, eminent historians, important biblical figures and their genealogy, different time line chronologies for various countries and empires showing their own particular histories and much more. A wonderful example of 19th century American color lithography.
