Description
Bronze Age, Antique statue: Master of Animals, Luristan, 1000 BC – 700 BC. Description: Ancient Luristan, ca. 1000 to 700 BCE. This is a bronze hollow tubular standard in the style of a "master of animals", a subhuman figure standing above the heads and necks of equally stylized, and somewhat leonine creatures. The figure's arms encircle the animals in what some have seen as an image of control. Below the animals are further stylized images, which may be masks. Suggestions for their interpretation have ranged from the religious -- depictions of deities, idols, talismans, etc. -- to the utilitarian -- parts of chariots or used in funerary rituals.
