Description
William IV Old Sheffield Plate Tureen, second quarter 19th century, of bulbous circular form, decorated with a wide rinceaux band and beaded egg-and-dart rim with addorsed acanthus handles and raised on four winged lion's-paw feet, the fitted, domed lid with acanthus, shell-and-gadroon band and acanthus bud finial, h. 10-1/4", w. 16-1/2".
Condition
Overall Condition: Good. Small 3/8" dent and loss on the underside of one foot. Small bumps to the tips of both handles with spots of wear to the lead core, with similar wear to the edges of the rim. No bleeding to the copper noted. Two 3/4" vertical surface fissures on the exterior at the most recessed area of the waisted collar. Unmarked. No monograms/armorials. A handsome piece with no significant condition issues
