Description
Pair of Louis-Philippe Gilt-Bronze Figural Four-Light Candelabra, second quarter 19th century, with molded standards depicting the God Apollo and the Goddess Diana, the vasiform bases with molded acanthus leaves and engine turning, the figures holding aloft scrolled and pierced candle arms decorated with honeysuckle and terminating in dog's heads, the laurel-molded drip pans set under candle cups with bas-relief stags and hunting hounds, h. 26", dia. 9".
Condition
In overall good condition. The candelabrum cast after Diana has been drilled for electrification and the candle arms are slightly tilted. The one cast after Apollo has a small pinhead-sized hole in the base of the neck, probably caused from a small firing fissure that opened. Both candelabra have some very light oxidation and wear to gilding as is to be expected with age and use.
