FREDERICK THE GREAT MARBLE AND BRONZE DESK SET
Massive, heavy ornamental desk set, consisting of a 17 1/2" x 9 1/2" slab of dark green marble, veined with streaks of lighter green and white, on four marble feet and with two square inkwells with hinged lids and white porcelain inserts, carved from the same marble, at the corners. At the center is a well-executed bronze depiction of Prussian King FREDERICK THE GREAT (1712-1786), dressed in a long coat, boots, and a tricorn hat, holding a cane and with his chin resting on his fist, with two hunting hounds at his feet. A shallow trough is carved in the marble, likely to hold pens and other writing implements. The desk set was likely crafted circa 1910. One foot slightly askew, else fine.
