Description
GEORGE CLINTON
(1739 - 1812) Vice President of the United States (1805-12) and Continental Congressman who opposed ratification of the Constitution. Manuscript D.S. as governor of New York, 2pp. legal folio, [Albany], Mar. 27, 1794, his veto of a bill that apparently sought to have special provisions made for wealthy landowners to be accommodated in the placement and construction of roads. Nicely signed at conclusion. Beneath Clinton's signature appears a five-line A.D.S. by his nephew and secretary, DEWITT CLINTON (1769-1828). Clinton attests to the governor having signed the document and it having been forwarded to the State Senate. Multiple edge faults with old tape repairs, splits, and a chip affecting a few letters in text; signatures unaffected.
