Three Nazca Polychrome Bowls
c. 400 AD
The three short cups or bowls are each painted with elaborate imagery in cream, black, red, and yellow on a smooth red pottery bell shaped form. Two vessels depict a feline monster deity wearing nose ornamentation, having long bodies and wielding weapons as they drag long undulating human headed images, signifying they are the decapitator god. The third has panels enclosing birds alternating with panels of checked motifs.
