Description
Oil on canvas Signed, lower left 49 x 70cm (19 1/4 x 27 1/2in.) In 1895, Olsson founded a School of Landscape and Marine Painting with artist Louis Grier. In 1946, in the foreword to one of his students, Robert Borlase Smart s exhibition The Techniques of Seascape Painting , he wrote For one whose heart draws him to the sea must, in the first place, have an exceptionally retentive memory, and be able to grasp in a few moments the effect of the ever-changing movements of the sea and sky… he must be prepared to fight the brave fight with the elements, which will be frequently against him.
