Description
A RARE ITALIAN SHORTSWORD, LATE 16TH CENTURY
with broad tapering blade of flattened-diamond section, stamped with a bladesmith's mark, and cut with a short fuller framed by a series of decorative lines and dots terminating with a cross on each side, hilt of faceted bars comprising a pair of straight quillons with slightly forward-canted drooping terminals swelling towards their terminals, outer ring-guard, and faceted mushroom-shaped pommel, and the grip with a later binding of twisted wire and 'Turk's heads' (light surface rust)
