From 1877-83, Böse studied at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Berlin as pupil of Fritz Schaper and Albert Wolff, whose masterclass he attended. From 1882 onwards he had his own studio, where he also took up pupils. In 1904 he became a professor. He regularly participated in exhibitions in Berlin. He created around 1200 busts and a large number of monumental works, including the statue of Albrecht II on the Siegesallee in Berlin.
