Description
Exceptional Federal Period "Liberty" Powder Horn. 12.5" signed & dated powder horn carved over the entire surface with designs and wording. The central portion of the base has an American eagle, shield and military display titled "Liberty". A small rectangle contains the initials of the owner and date of its creation ("A F G 1800"). There is a compass and the inscription: "After all this enemis coming to this country must carry ye stares and strypes. Amen." (An exhortation to carry the "Stars and Stripes"). The rest of the horn is decorated with trees, hills, forts and rivers. The identified sites include: Potomack River, Chestnut Ridge, Monongela River, Turtle Creek, Ohio River, Logs Town, Gret Beaver Creek, Point of Lake Erie and more. Fabulous condition and patina. This has not seen the light of day for the last 40 years.
