Cased Edward Maynard Three Barrel Breechloading Rifle & Shotgun Set, Presented to Major Wynn in 1868.
Serial no. 26230 [receiver and all three barrels]. Three barrels include: 16-gauge, 26-inch smoothbore shotgun barrel with fixed front bead sight; .36 caliber, 32-inch rifled barrel with fixed front and rear sights; .36 caliber, 20-inch rifled barrel with fixed front and rear sights. Right side of receiver marked: MANUFACTURED BY / MASS ARMS CO. / CHICOPEE FALLS. Left side marked: EDWARDS MAYNARD and patent dates. Tang ladder sight. Barrels blued. Smooth walnut straight stock. Metal buttplate. Contained in hardwood display case, top of lid with the inlaid initials E.G.M. Inner lid presentation label reads: THE / MAYNARD SET / PRESENTED TO MAJOR WYNN IN 1868 / THESE GUNSETS WERE PRESENTED TO OFFICERS OF THE / UNION ARMY WHO DISTINGUISHED THEMSELVES IN / THE ARMED SERVICE DURING THE CIVIL WAR. by - MR. MAYNARD OF THE MASSACHUSETTS ARMS / COMPANY IN CHICOPEE FALLS, MASS. Sold along with nipple wrench, flask and cleaning tools.
Condition: Extremely fine condition. Barrels retaining approximately 70-80% finish with scattered handling wear and fine pitting. 20-inch barrel showing a little more thinning. Noticeable scuffs and scratches to wood. Action good. Strong bores. Normal age and storage wear to case. Some minor staining and inner edge damage to walls.
