Letter box from the WWII period. Made of Mahogany. Locking mechanism up front. Dovetail jointing, brass hinges. Open work carving up top, deep relief of an elephant and palm tree, with the name ELIZABETH REED and AFRICA, as well as a winged five-point star, which was the logo of the US Air Force from around 1942 to shortly after-war. All hand carved in Folk Art manner. Made for a WWII period US Military nurse by the name of Elizabeth Reed.
