From the collection of Rita Ford Music Boxes. This extremely rare and wonderful music box was made circa 1886 by the renowned firm of "George Baker & Co." of Geneva, Switzerland for the Geneva exposition. The Musical movement is of the highly prized "Sublime Harmony" arrangement with 6 Cylinders totaling 48 songs as listed on the original Programme card. This Music Box is also equipped with a Tempo control, Tune Indicator, and Tune Changer allowing the listener to choose a desired selection and tempo. Aside from the amazing tone and superior arrangements consisting of various Trills and Arpeggios associated with the "Sublime Harmony Arrangement", this particular Music Box also utilizes tempo changes, retards and accelerandos further adding to the listeners enjoyment. Finally a Double Spring mechanism allows for extra long playing time. The beautiful Case and Matching Cabinet were done in the "French Ormolu" style. Ebony wood and Black Lacquer accented with Inlaid Brass and Bronze fittings throughout as well as three Signed Porcelaine Plaques add greatly to the rarity of this Music Box. The Inside of the Lid with Framed Mirror and the Dust cover are finished with Birds-eye Maple. A similar Music Box can be found on page 49 in the "David Bower's Encyclopedia for Automatic Instruments" . This Case with matching Cabinet design was commissioned and created for Czar Nicholas II of Russia in 1878. The entire Music Box, Case and Cabinet has been recently restored to magnificent condition.
