Rolex, 'Pre Daytona' Chronograph, ref. 6238, a rare stainless steel bracelet wristwatch, no. 1226254, circa 1965, automatic chronograph movement, 17 jewels, cal. 72B, silvered dial, applied baton markers, luminous baton hands, centre chronograph hand, subsidiary dials for constant seconds, 30 minute and 12 hour recording, screw down back stamped Fuerza Aerea Del Peru , case, dial and movement signed , on a Rolex Oyster stainless steel bracelet with fold over clasp, diameter 35mm The Rolex reference 6238 is known among collectors as the Pre Daytona, being the precursor to the original Daytona which have reference 6239. The 6238 was produced from the early 1960s to 1967, and this example is fitted with the Cal. 72B which was later replaced with the 722 in 1965. Rolex has a long history of supplying watches to the military. The Peruvian Airforce commissioned various watches for its personnel and it is estimated that around 700 watches were issued, and the limited number makes this a rare watch.
