Item Details
Description
Central Asian "Korak" Patchwork, Silk/Cotton, Central Asia, 1940s(?), SIZE- 2'10" x 2'10" These textiles are composed of the fragments of textiles, and were apparently used by the Kirghiz and possibly other non Turkmen Central Asian tribal groups. It is thought they were used as merely decorative textiles, suspended from the walls of the yurts and were possibly considered to talismanic, or for good luck (to ward off the evil eye, etc.). The condition is good, there is a bit of fraying of a silk (see detail images), and one small stain in the red cotton fringe (see detail image).
