Description
From Rajasthan, INDIA, early 20th centuryThe marketplace for embroidery from India is rather full, with many examples of different types of tribal textiles being shown. Few, though, are as 'attractive' to my eye, with older ground cloth dyed with what appears to be madder or some other older dye and the embroidery too consists of natural dyed thread. The stitching is seen in Rabari embroideries from W. India, including Kutch (Gujarat) and Rajasthan. The game played on this 'board' is traditional and one seen throughout the region on into Central Asia. Sewn on to a linen cloth, (OPTIONAL - stretched over and attached to a wooden frame, shipping extra!), it is a rather dramatic as well as a modern art aesthetic. Measures: 28" x 29".
