TITLE: AN APPLE-GREEN CHINESE JADEITE CARVED BOX
DATE: 18/19TH CENTURY
MEDIUM: Jadeite
SUBJECT: Jade objects, boxes, jade carvings, Qing dynasty
DESCRIPTION: A handsomely carved lobbed apple-green jadeite box and cover. The top well carved with symbols of longevity (peaches) and good fortune (ruyi).
DIMENSIONS: 6.5 centimeters in height; 9 centimeters in diameter at base
PROVENANCE: From the collection of the Fan family.
RELATED EXAMPLES: While many similar examples of white jade circular boxes exist, as do examples of apple green jadeite “Shou” character medallion boxes, the lobed shape of this box make for an unusual combination of several different examples, extending from the Qianlong through to the Republic era.
