From Montanus' "De Nieuwe en Onbekende Weereld: of Beschryving van America". An attractive map of the Caribbean islands based on Blaeu's 1635 chart. It follows the coastline from Chesapeake Bay to northern South America. Florida is curiously shaped and stretches westward to the Mississippi River. The mouth of the Mississippi is shown as a large bay, opening onto three separate rivers. Honduras occupies most of Central America, with Nicaragua located on the southwest coast. Cuba is shown alongside Hispaniola, Puerto Rico and Jamaica. The Virgin Islands down to the Grenadines are mapped, as are the Lesser Antilles off the coast of South America. Burden, P.
