Magnificent and important Gebruder Bruder 80-keyless fairground organ, #4909, Model 104, circa 1908, made in the Black Forest Town of Waldkirch, Germany, the paint decorated case in a palette of cream, pink, and blue surmounted by a central green grotesque mask flanked by reeded shells, above the central niche with a carved figure of a conductor in a frock coat keeping time with his baton, flanked by robed maidens striking bells, the case with exposed pipes, one cymbal and two drums with foliate painted heads and allover Rococo motifs of acanthus flourishes, C-scrolls, and foliate swags, inscribed 'Gebr. Bruder / Waldkirch,' offered with twenty-five folding tune books, 90"h x 133"w x 46"d.This lot is one of only a dozen existing Gebruder fair organs and has been expertly restored by the renowned Mike Kitner. Provenance:F.E. Gooding Amusement Company, Ohio, purchased circa 1950; Erwin Heller, Macedonia, OH, acquired from the above; Jim Wells, Fairfax, VA, purchased from the above 1977; Doyle Lane, Canada & United States, purchased from the above; William Kerchner, purchased from the above 1979; Mike Kitner, Baltimore, MD, purchased from the above 1982; Private Collection, acquired from the above; Mr. Marvin Horowitz, Vero Beach, FL., acquired from the above.The German Black Forest town of Waldkirch was home to some of the world’s finest organ manufacturers, including the Gebruder Bruder firm which flourished from the late 19th century until the late 1930s. Known for their distinctive carving and casings, Gebruder Bruder supplied most of Europe with exquisite mechanical music organs which were used predominantly in fairgrounds, ice skating rinks, moving picture shows and large dance halls.
