The radiant ivory field of this Caucasian carpet is host to an array of stylized blossoms, each painstakingly rendered in highly individual hues. They ascend in even rows toward an understated mihrab arch, itself enriched by a mosaic of colorful detail, arranged as if by microscope with distinct naturally dyed tones of madder red, saffron, ivory, and azure. Energetic borders fully participate in the kaleidoscopic spectacle, contributing abstract blossoms and complex diagonal stripes to the creative display of this antique Persian rug, circa 1875.
