AN ANTIQUE CHINESE PARCEL GILT CORAL RED GLAZED PORCELAIN JAR, IRON RED FOUR CHARACTER SQUARE SEAL MARK, TONGZHI PERIOD (1862-1874), of compressed ovoid form with the burnt orange glaze starting neatly just below the short unglazed neck and collar, covering the body and stopping in line just before the ringed white unglazed foot, with one side centering a large stylized gilt blossom amongst leafy stems, opposite the other side with gilt four character mark inscription, interior and underside white glazed, underside enclosing overglaze iron red four character double line square seal mark, surmounted by a conforming reticulated and nicely carved hardwood lid and raised on a hardwood footed stand. Height: 4 1/4" Diameter: 4"
Condition
Good condition, some coral glaze and gilt marks on sides are worn, normal surface buildup, kiln flaw, interior has small spider hairline that is does not go through to exterior surface.
