Item Details
Description
A very fine highly carved nine piece laminated rosewood parlor set in the Stanton Hall pattern produced by J. and J.W. Meeks, New York circa 1850s. The 1237-carved frame of each piece surmounted by a shell motif spilling roses and other flowers over the button tucked back framed by the undulating rosewood frame with openwork carving joining the overstuffed seat framed in spoon carved rails with a central front cartouche carving, raised on serpentine legs with carved pendants at the knees. The set comprised of four side chairs measuring 40 x 19 x 19 inches each, four arm chairs measuring 42 x 26 x 26 inches each and the sofa measuring 48 x 64 x 32 inches. We ship in-house for all items with the exception of very large and or very fragile pieces and some international shipments.
Condition
Very good to excellent condition throughout. Very sturdy throughout, clean upholstery and free from repairs. What follows is a critical piece-by-piece assessment of any issue, most are very minor.
Two armchairs have been retrofitted with wooden peg feet in place of the traditional brass casters. One armchair has two small tack holes on one arm and a chip to the carved cartouche on the front rail. One side chair has a chipped crest tip at the top re-built, less than 10% of the tip was lost and replaced with filler. One side chair with a small chip on the upper back edge. One side chair with a repair to the tip and a small chip on the upper edge. One armchair with scattered chips and roughness to carving on front rail, one arm with a split and a new tack inserted. Armchair with glued repair to one arm. Armchair with chip on inside hip. Sofa with chips and repair to the top cartouche, scattered small chips on some of the scrollwork, repair on one of the scrolls along the top with a chip to that repair, repair with some roughness on one arm. These issues were visible with a bright light and magnifying glass. Very good intact condition overall.
