Description
11" x 8.5". This contract, dated October 23rd 1957, is for the composition "E and D Blues (Ella and Duke Blues)", co-composed by Duke Ellington and John Sanders. John Sanders was a trombonist in the Duke Ellington Orchestra. The title of the song is likely in reference to Ella Fitzgerald, sometimes referred to as "the Queen of Jazz," who often collaborated and performed with the Duke Ellington Orchestra. This contract bears both Ellington's and Sanders' signatures, in addition to that of Ruth James, Duke's sister, then-President of Tempo Music.
