Description
This is an extremely rare original unique one of a kind Drawing by listed artist Leroy Neiman. This piece is untitled. It features a man and woman standing next to a golf club rack. This piece is hand-signed by the artist in pencil and dated 1956. The sight seen measures approximately 4.5"h x 7.75"w and the framed dimensions are 20"h x 24.75"w. This piece includes a certificate of authenticity. Leroy Neiman (1921 - 2012) is one of the most iconic artists and illustrators of the second half of the 20th century and into the 21st. Neiman is known for his bright colorful paintings and serigraphs done in a semi-abstract style and featuring everything from famous sports stars landscapes horses and sports venues. Neiman was born in St. Paul Minnesota and studied at the Art Institute of Chicago the University of Chicago and the University of Illinois. He served on the Art Institute of Chicagos faculty for ten years. In 1954 Neiman began creating illustrations for Playboy Magazine a relationship which lasted over 50 years. By 1960 Neiman was traveling the world illustrating important events and leisure activities such as the Olympics the Super Bowl the World Series the Kentucky Derby championship boxing PGA and The Masters golf tournament The Ryder Cup the World Equestrian Games Wimbledon and other Grand Slam competitions as well as night life entertainment jazz and the world of casino gambling. It is through these experiences that Leroy Neiman became known as the first the first major sports artist in the world. Neiman received five honorary doctorates and numerous awards a recent Lifetime achievement award from the University of Southern California an induction into the International Boxing Hall of Fame and proclamations and citations. Most recently he has received The Order of Lincoln on the 200th birthday celebration of Abraham Lincoln given by The Lincoln Academy of Illinois. He has authored twelve books of his art. A documentary on his jazz painting "The Big Band" had its world premiere in Los Angeles in February 2009. Neimans art can be found in prestigious public collections throughout the world. Some of these institutions include: the permanent collection of the Smithsonian the Whitney Museum the Brooklyn Museum the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston the State Hermitage Museum in Russia Wadham College at Oxford and in museums and art galleries the world over as well as in private and corporate collections.(579965)
