Description
Egypt, New Kingdom 18th Dynasty, ca. 1543 to 1292 BCE. This is a terracotta funerary cone that would have been used as the end of a support beam in a chapel or temple. They were traditionally inserted into rows with their flat ends facing outwards above the mud brick entrances of the non-royal tombs in Thebes; there is a similar tradition from Mesopotamia. The cone is inscribed for - The Osiris, prophet of Amun-re king of the gods, overseer of the prophets of the gods of Upper Egypt in its entirety, chief steward of the Divine Adoratress, Pa-ba-sai, son of the ‘god’s beloved’ priest Pa-di-bastet, his mother being Ta-senet-hor. Size: 3.8" W x 7" H (9.7 cm x 17.8 cm)
