Description
"Dr. Robert I-San Lin's Collection of Important Chinese Artworks
This well-shaped dish has a thin and very fine clay body, and a very smooth and delicate glaze that has a slight greenish tinge. Both are typical of Yongzheng imperial porcelains. The underglaze cobalt pigment is intense and pure blue, also typical for the imperial underglaze blue pigment of the late Kangxi to early Yongzheng period. The main motif is the word ""shou"" repeated many times on the wall and at the center of the inner base, with the word ""Fu"" (blessed and having good luck) also at the center. Yongzheng marked dishes of this same shape, size, and decoration, are among the collections of several leading museums worldwide. However, this one is unique and very rare because it has a Xuande mark at the center of the outer base. Chinese porcelain history compendia mentioned that during early Yongzheng years, the Superintendent of the Imperial Factory Nien Xi Yao made many blue and white wares that imitated Xuande wares. This is a very rare example, having survived almost three centuries. H 2.8 cm, dia 11.3 cm, weight 94.6 g.
(Collection of Dr. Robert I-San Lin of California)
