Collection of handmade posters used in political demonstrations against Apartheid and Neo-Colonialism in African countries, different formats. Comprises: two placards reading "Azania Will Be Free - Freedom Rising", with a black and white photographic illustration depicting an Occupation in solidarity with the anti-apartheid campaign; a poster featuring an expressionistic drawing of a red arm grasping a rifle on a crude map of Africa in green and reading "Armed Struggle Will Liberate Azania, Freedom Rising: Africa Solidarity Committee; a poster depicting a black speaker on a stage, with a banner in the background reading "Victory to Zimbabwe's Patriotic Front"; placard reading "For the Revolution to Triumph in Its totality, there must be emancipation for women", drawn illustration, titles in black and handpainted in red gouache; some wear to edges and corners, various sizes , [San Francisco], [Women Against Imperialism], [late 1980s]. (5) Women Against Imperialism was a short-lived feminist, anti-imperialist solidarity organization formed in San Francisco in 1981. The group was committed to political education activities including support for female political prisoners, victims of the sex trade and trafficking, international solidarity and militarism. American street props are particularly rare on the market, since they were used and discarded in the main and replaced with new slogans as the political issues of the day changed.
