Item Details
Description
In the 1600s gold was transported in the same manner that was silver - in bar or ingot form. Gold bars are smaller than silver bars due to the difference in metallic weight; gold is about the same weight per ounce as lead. (If gold bars were formed to match the weight of silver bars, they would be impossible to lift.) Despite their more diminutive stature, gold bars were significantly more valuable. A noteworthy feature is the marking on this bar - which remains in pristine condition - as gold does not react with salt water. As Mel used to say, "gold shines forever," and that makes an item such as this an exciting artifact to encounter. This specific gold bar is stamped with the Pe_aranda insignia.

Due to its manageable size, Mel Fisher liked to carry this particular gold bar in his pocket and often showed it to those intrigued by his treasure hunting adventures. Since Mel carried this artifact with him, it has made a plethora of television appearances since its rediscovery in 1979. RESERVE
