AN EXCITING WELL-PROPORTIONED SCRATCH-BUILT SHELF MODEL OF A 4-4-0 LOCOMOTIVE AND TENDER, with builder's plate: "Built June 1911 by A. A. Bowers. Built as a static shelf model of a New York Central and Hudson River Railroad Locomotive and Tender, the locomotive includes a simulated 2 3/4" diameter horizontal boiler with bell, twin steam domes, stack and boiler rails. Other details include: twin outside-mounted cylinders each with working crosshead sections and connecting rods to four 3" diameter cast drivers, four 1 1/4" diameter bogie wheels, brass cowcatcher, the well-proportioned engine of steel, cast iron and brass construction with a tin cab. Tender details include: twin trucks each with four 13/4" diameter cast solid wheels, the tender of wood construction each side hand painted "N-Y-C-H-R-R", 3" track gauge mounted on a 28" track section of steel rails and wood ties all on an oak presentation base 30" x 7". Dimensions: overall length of locomotive - 19 1/2"; of tender - 9 1/2"; of locomotive and tender approximately - 26 1/2"; height to top of cab - 8". Weight - approximately 20 lbs. This interesting model appears to be in original condition and only in need of minor detailing and conservation. (See photo).
