Item Details
Description
A RARE FORM RADIGUET VERTICAL STEAM PLANT circa-1895 built by the French firm Radiguet. Engine details include a single inverted vertical all-brass cylinder of approximately 3/4" bore x 2" stroke, the engine side-mounted, set on angle, to vertical boiler with a 1 1/4" diameter brass cylinder side-mounted valve chest with removable threaded cover revealing a crankshaft arm driven piston D-valve adjustable cylinder and chest packing glands, well-detailed all-brass hand main throttle valve with piping to boiler, the engine with double tapered steel connecting rod with strapped bearing ends, each with internal adjustable brass bearing surface, single 2" diameter crankshaft disc, twin crankshaft main bearings, each with removable brass bearing cap, each with provision for oiling, single 6" diameter heavy cast 4-curvilinear spoke flywheel with a 5/8" polished face, 3" diameter flat belt pulley with a 1" raised center face. Other fine engine details include: an all-brass crankshaft-driven eccentric strap and pump rod to a base-mounted positive displacement boiler feed pump, complete with twin check-valves, intake piping and output piping with fittings to boiler.
Boiler details include what appears to be a 6" diameter wrought iron boiler shell with center 2 1/4" vertical single fire tube flue, removable 2 1/4" x 11" chimney section with ornate brass spark arrestor, all-brass single tone steam whistle with a 1/2" diameter x 1" bell, brass hand lever with secondary brass shut-off valve with wood handle, boiler gauge glass intact with brass packing nuts and fittings, twin hand lever-operated brass boiler water level valves, brass main blow-down valve, well-executed hinged fire door with working latch and catch, the fire door section with surround of hand-rivets. Final boiler details include what appears to be contemporary wood or coal steel grates, a top-mounted boiler fill plug, brass spring-loaded top-mounted safety valve, all mounted on a stepped hardwood 9" diameter base with steel top flange, all in what appears to be operating condition complete with exception of what would be a small 3/4" diameter steam gauge (easily obtainable through model engine resources).
Dimensions: overall height to top of spark arrestor - 26"; overall width over shaft - 10"; overall height to top of boiler upper crown sheet - 14"; overall height of base - 3"; overall height to top of flywheel. Estimated weight - 50 lbs. (See photo).
