Description
Pair of early 19th century carved walnut side or dining chairs with tooled leather seat and back. Chair ears are carved in the form of an unusual bird's head. Each chair is also carved with a Northwind style face where stile meets leg. Seat and backing are heavy tooled leather. Design on chair backs incorporates a family crest and coat of arms consisting of a crowned double eagle and shield with Tower over Lion Passant. Design on seats is that of dragons. Leather seats have been re stuffed and lined. Condition: generally good considering age, heavy signs of age to leather with a tear to the back of one chair, loss to left side of one front foot on one chair, one bird's head has been repaired on each chair, see images. Each chair measures 41.4" tall x 19" wide x approx. 26" deep. Weight: approximately 30 lbs.
