It seems that for Ovilu, the sea goddess was not so much an easily annoyed, all-powerful deity but rather a symbol of womanhood. Ovilu did not sexualize Sedna. In fact this sea goddess, like so many of the artist’s depictions of her, doesn’t even seem naked; it’s as if she’s wearing a sea goddess gown.
