Edison's Telephone "The Motograph", 1877
Loud-speaking (or musical) telephone, patented on July 30, 1877 by Thomas A. Edison, with carbon-button microphone and electromotograph (chalk) receiver with revolving drum of chalk and a small crank, ornate cast-iron housing, lower cover replaced. – After Edison came second in the race to patent a telephone in America, he tried to establish a footing in the English market in competition with Bell's patent. However, after only two years, Bell's system met with success in England as well, as a result of which Edison's invention failed commercially. – Only 2 examples are known today worldwide.

Edison, mit Kohlemikrophon und elektrischem Lautsprecher (mit großer Membrane, Kalktrommel und Handkurbelantrieb), Ornamenten-reiches Gußgehäuse, untere Spulen-Abdeckung ergänzt. – Nachdem Edison mit seiner Patentanmeldung in Amerika zu spät kam, versuchte er mit Abwandlungen von Bells Patenten auf dem englischen Markt Fuß zu fassen. Nach nur zwei Jahren aber wurde auch in England Bells System übernommen. – Nur zwei Exemplare dieses frühen Telephons sind weltweit bekannt.
