Description
A wonderful 17th Century English ivory and malacca cane. The elephant ivory handle is 3 3/4"” high and 1 1/2” at its thickest. Like its pique-decorated counter parts, it has a raised central ring. This example lacks the silver pique decoration but it has a wonderful yellow age patina and it is pierced in the ivory for a wrist cord. There is a 2/3” punch-decorated silver collar with scalloped edges on a malacca shaft that ends with a very old, rusted 3/4" ferrous metal ferrule worn down from its original long length, from years of use. The overall length is 33 1/2" and it is in very good condition, with the normal signs of age in its 300+ years of existence. It is ca 1695, and it is a marvelous very early example of the type. Estimate: $2000-$3000
