Description
Two gentlemen's waistcoats, 1760-70, one of ivory faille embroidered in wine chenille and silver thread in chain stitch c.1760, chest 112cm, 44in; the other of possibly Indian brocade with embroidered buttons and part lined in pink plush, chest 92cm, 36in (2)
Condition
• Embroidered waistcoat - couple of brown spot/ring stains to front chest area, soiled appearance. Cotton back and lining are also soiled in appearance. Perspiration stains at underarms
• Brocade waistcoat - perspiration stains at underarms, 2cm split in silk below right pocket, moth damage to woollen back panels, lovely pink plush edging/lining. Cluster of small brown spot stains around one button. Large hole and moth damage to wool lining. Rear waist has been taken in by large tacking stitches. Rows of old stitch lines show the backing was originally wider.
