Description
Greece, Athens, ca. 6th century BCE. An exceptional black figure lekythos depicting a beautiful Ariadne leading two satyrs to a Bacchic ritual. Ariadne is depicted in a long flowing black robe with white carved details, white wreath, long hair, fine red eye, and white painted skin. Four grape branches flow from Ariadnes back framing the two dancing satyrs, with incised facial and body features, long tails, and purple highlighted beards. palmettes and sun rays on top of piece. A spectacular and striking piece. 8-5/8"T.
Provenance: Ex-D. Fallier's Collection, Denver, CO, acquired in the 1980s at Fortuna Fine Arts, NYC.
