Civil War Confederate Doily with Gen. Tom Rosser Connection
Beautiful hand-made doily made for the wife of famous Confederate Cavalry general Thomas Rosser by friend Hattie Gordon of Gordonsville, Virginia, not far from Charlottesville where Tom's wife Barbara lived. The doily is accompanied by a note of provenance dated August 1, 1989, in which the previous owner states he acquired them at a Rosser family member auction and the artifact was accompanied by a note that stated ""These were given to me (Betty Barbara Winston Rosser) by Hattie Gordon when I married Tom. I want them given to Barbara when she is old enough to appreciate the handiwork."" The cardboard was dated 1899, the previous owner indicated, and initialed ""BWR."" There were originally two indentical doilies, but one was previously sold. Fine condition. 7"" wide by 7"" tall.
