Description
Studied medicine in Lausanne, Paris and Berlin. In 1889, he became a French citizen. He worked at the Pasteur Institute, then in Indochina, where he set up a laboratory in 1895. It was he who discovered the plague bacillus. He set up an agricultural station and introduced rubber cultivation, the first crop of which was bought by Michelin.
