He attended the Collège de Bourg, then the Collège de Lyon, and was admitted to the Polytechnique, but decided not to take the oral exam. His first publication appeared in 1923. He learnt German, visited Germany and England, and then took part in a scientific exploration mission in Morea. Autograph letter signed "E Quinet" à Mr Viardot (Louis, mari de Pauline Garcia), Veytaux (Suisse), 8 Mai 1867, 4 pp. in-8°. Intéressante lettre.
