Description
Born Caron, he studied at the Ecole des métiers d'Alfort. In 1749, his father expelled him from the school for his insolence. In 1753, he invented a new escapement system that was submitted to the Académie des Sciences. In 1757, he changed his name to Caron de Beaumarchais, the name of the land his wife had just inherited. In 1761, he sold his watchmaking business and bought the position of adviser-secretary to the King, which allowed him to officially bear the name de Beaumarchais. From 1787, he corresponded with the Minister of Foreign Affairs on the subject of French comedy copyright. He borrowed money to defend the interests of the American insurgents. Autograph letter signed "Beaumarchais" to Guebart, Tuesday evening s.l.n.d. 1/2 p. by -8°. Beautiful piece. Although slightly wrinkled and smoky on top. He warns hiscorrespondent that Mr. (Gilles Pierre) Chenu is waiting for him the next day to finish his work: ”...j'ai passé l'après-midi avec M. Chenu qui vous attend demain de très bonne heure pour terminer son travail...".
