Details
On four scrolling acanthus feet, the fluted shaped circular bowl applied with cast vine tendrils and grapes and supporting a central grapevine stem hung with six vine leaf dishes, applied with bunches of grapes and vine tendrils, marked underneath and on handle, stamped HUNT & ROSKELL, LATE STORR MORTIMER AND HUNT 2804

Lot Essay
The firm of Hunt and Roskell, the successor to Paul Storr's partnerships with John Mortimer and later with John Samuel Hunt, was the pre-eminent designer and manufacturer of the grandest presentation plate in the middle and latter years of the 19th century. In the same year this stand was created they supplied the Russian Royal Court with a magnificent dinner service. The French King Louis Philippe I (1773-1850) also commissioned a impressive set of vases, similarly formed from vines, one of which also dated from 1846. These were sold in Christie's London, 17 March 1999, lot 32.
