VILAIN XIV Philippe Louis Minister Belgium(Ghent, 1778 - Brussels, 1856). Mayor of Ghent and commander of the honor guard of the Scheldt department. He was awarded the title of Count. He was a member of the second chamber of the Estates General. He later became vice-president of the Senate for seventeen successive sessions.Autograph letter signed dated Brussels, 06.02.1856 to Paul Langer Senior: "Éje vous serais bien obligŽ de me fournir quelques renseignements confidentiels ˆ cet ŽgardÉ".LEOPOLD I King of the Belgians Belgium(Coburg, 1790 - Laeken, 1865). After refusing the Greek crown, he was elected King of the Belgians in 1831. He sought to keep Belgium neutral. SPAAK Paul Henri Charles Prime Minister Belgium(Schearbeek, 1899 - Brussels, 1972). Studied law in Brussels. He was Minister of Transport and PTT, then Foreign Affairs and Prime Minister in 1938. Defended the Benelux, NATO, Council of Europe, ECSC, EDC, EEC and Euratom treaties. He is considered one of the fathers of Europe.Signed printed photograph applied to cardboard in-16 and dated Brussels, 20.02.1947 to Paul Langer.HYMANS Paul Chairman of the SDN Belgium(1865 - 1941). Dr. in law, professor at the UniversitŽ libre de Bruxelles. He held various ministerial posts throughout his career. He was instrumental in making education compulsory and introducing universal suffrage. His international prestige enabled him to chair the first General Assembly of the League of Nations.Autograph letter signed dated Bruxelles, 22.12.1920: "É je vous remercie vivement de l'envoi de vos charmantes vues de paysages hŽlvŽtiquesÉ". VANDERVELDE Emile Chairman of the Council Belgium(Brussels, 1866 - Brussels, 1938). With a doctorate in law, social science and political economy, he joined the Belgian Workers' Party, and ten years later embarked on a parliamentary career. In 1894, he was deputy for Charleroi, and in 1916, a member of the Council of Ministers. He served as Minister of Justice, Foreign Affairs and Public Health.
