Description

Military training at Polytechnique. Served in Algeria and Gouadeloupe. In 1852, he was transferred as Governor of Senegal. He showed an interest in local customs and took part in the country's economic development. When he resigned in 1870, the country was prosperous. He then took command of the ArmŽe du Nord in the war against Germany.
