Description
Military school in Paris. Appointed brigadier general in 1783. He served with Bonaparte in Egypt. In 1800, he took command of the Army of Italy, and in 1804 was made Marshal of the Empire. In 1805, he took part in Austerlitz, and was made Grand Cross of the Legion of Honor. In 1806, he defeated the Prussian army at Auerstadt, and in 1808 received the title of Duke of Auerstadt. After Wagram, he became commander-in-chief of the German army. He took part in the Russian campaign and was then sent to Germany to quell the population uprising. When Napoleon returned from Elba, he was appointed Minister of War. He was commissioned by the government to ask Napoleon to leave Paris. In 1815, he signed the armistice with the allies and left Paris. Document signed, dated Paris on May 4, 1819. Napoleon appoints Colonel Jacques Leroy as superior commander of the Place de Langre. It is consequently ordered to the general officers. Signed: "Le Ministre de la Guerre ..L.N.DavoutÓ.
