Son of a Scotsman, he began his military career in the Irish Legion. He distinguished himself at Wagram. He took part in the Russian campaign. During the Hundred Days, he joined the National Guard as a grenadier. Napoleon made him Marshal of the Empire in 1809.Certificate of non-activity issued to citizen Duran of the 14th 1/2 line brigade.
