Empress Auguste Viktoria (1858 - 1921) - her personal car pennant with documentationTwo-layered yellow silk, both sides richly embroidered with black and coloured silk, including the crowned Hohenzollern eagle, collar of the High Order of the Black Eagle and the Iron Cross (1870). Somewhat darkened, partly stained, traces of use and age. Dimensions unfolded approx. 45 x 84 cm, folded approx. 45 x 42 cm. According to the consignor a frame, now missing, stabilised the cloth and was used to fix it to a pole of the car.Comes with a folder containing documents dated 1961 – 1963, which show that the pennant at hand was a gift to Ernst Wupper, driver in the service of the imperial family, during the time the Emperor moved to the Netherlands: (tr.) "My husband has told me that the Prince (i.e. Eitel Friedrich) said: Mr. Wupper, please keep the pennant as a memento!". Thereafter, the General Administration of the former ruling Prussian Royal House tried, together with Julius Knoop, driver of the imperial couple from 1908 onwards, to urge the donee to surrender the pennant, including correspondence with Knoop personally. Furthermore, an article entitled (tr.) "The Emperor’s personal chauffeur" published in the "Welt" newspaper on 15 December 2005 about Julius Knoop (1887 – 1967).Unique historical object from family possession, significantly rarer than the navy pennant of the Empress with the same symbols.Condition: II
