This is a square-shaped jade inkstone known as the "Biyu Songhe Yannian Inkstone." It is characterized by its overall thickness, fine and smooth jade quality. On the rectangular inkstone, there are images of lush pine trees with twisting and coiling branches and densely packed pine needles. Two cranes are perched atop the inkstone, and their raised and carved forms are thick and substantial, with precise and sharp carving techniques, resulting in a natural and harmonious composition.Inkstones are essential items on the desks of literati and scholars. They have a long history and lineage and have been highly regarded by emperors. Several examples were collected by emperors in the Qing Dynasty, either for practical use or for appreciation. Emperor Qianlong, in particular, wrote numerous poems about inkstones, creating a collection of forty poems in just six days, demonstrating the significance and appreciation of inkstones in Chinese culture
