Description
A wonderful 19th c. portrait we attribute to George Healy. This woman appears to be the same woman in the portrait "Woman in Black" which is signed by Healy. This portrait is unsigned but attributed to Healy.
We believe this could be either Sally Ward who Healy painted a number of times or perhaps an a painting of a young Louisa May Alcott, both of woman lived in the Boston area at various times which is where this painting came from in the 1940's.
This portrait requires a major restoration. Major damage to portrait. Canvas has been glued to a modern canvas. Areas of touch up and other damage. With a professional restoration this piece could be beautiful. Oil on canvas 34"w x 44"l. Not signed.
